Identification of conservation targets in the South of the Guayaquil Ecoregion (Peru)

Location: northern Peruvian coast from Peninsula of Bayovar to Tumbes

Goals:

  • Planning of activities and creation of theoretical framework for the evaluation of biodiversity in intertidal and subtidal areas of the northern coast of Peru.
  • Identification of habitat types in the intertidal zones along the northern coast with a description of algae, invertebrates and fish, as well as identification of different types of use, threats and conservation status.
  • Identification of subtidal habitats, within sampling sites and emphasis on fish and invertebrate communities as well as types of use, threats and conservation status in each sampling site.
  • Collection of intertidal and subtidal species for their incorporation in Mundo Azul´s reference collection.
  • Photographic register of all collected species.
  • Data base on sampling sites and species encountered in each sampling site.

 

Results:
The results are part of the publication on eco-regional planning of “The Nature Conservancy for the Ecoregion Guayaquil”.
